MTK Engineering Mode

MTK Engineering Mode is an app that provides access to a service mode and secret menus on MediaTek devices.

MediaTek, often abbreviated MTK, is a Taiwanese company that manufacturers computer chips and other technology products. Its chips are relatively inexpensive and therefore make their way into many of budget-oriented Android devices. You’ll find MTK chips in devices from Chuwi, Tecno, Infinix and so forth. These chips provide access to a service mode, and that mode provides user access to low-level services on the device. Phone and tablet manufacturers don’t expose this mode by default and never intended for you to have access to it, but MTK Engineering Mode overcomes that limitation.

Once you run this app, you’ll have access to MTK Settings alongside the standard Android Settings. Some service modes require you to jump through hoops to overcome GPS locks and whatnot, but this app just works without those hassles. In the MTK settings, you’ll have access to technician tools and tests as well as the ability to set networking and other settings that aren’t normally exposed. These chips have built-in features that the phone or tablet manufacturer may not have taken advantage of, but you can now turn them on from here and begin enjoying those benefits.

The mode that this app provides access to was never intended for user consumption. The user interface is minimal, there’s no help present, and it lacks safeguards. A user could potentially botch their current installation or, in extreme cases, damage their phone or tablet. That doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t take advantage of this app but just that you should do it with care.
